Corridor Profiles

The Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991 (ISTEA) established a special program to fund safety improvements at highway-rail grade crossings on corridors that were "designated" as high-speed intercity passenger rail corridors based on their present utility and potential for future development.

Up to 11 corridors are authorized for designation; to date, the U.S. Secretary of Transportation and/or Congress have designated 10 corridors.

In this section, you will find profiles that include input from state rail planners on the work done in each of the federally designated corridors to date, near-term and long-range high-speed rail plans, and current and upcoming challenges to high-speed rail development.
