Last week, the Obama Administration awarded $8 billion in federal high-speed and intercity passenger rail stimulus funds for the development of two "true" high speed rail systems in California and Florida, and the creation of viable intercity service with 19 other projects. In addition, more than 10 separate planning grants were provided, ensuring a full pipeline of projects moving forward.
